Enrichment Classes and Programs
Hōkūlani CTOM offers dynamic performing arts enrichment classes for keiki and ‘ōpio (children and teens) year-round, on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at Home Pumehana. The 2024 Enrichment Program has expanded to introduce an even wider variety of classes, designed to ignite creativity and collaboration.
In the early months of the year, January and February brought laughter to life with sessions on improvisation, stand-up comedy, mime, and skits. February and March saw the rhythm take center stage with music and dance classes, setting the stage for an exciting partnership with the Lanaʻi Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA) for a three-day camp and joint production on Molokaʻi. Summer was a season of storytelling as participants explored the art of Storytelling and Reader’s Theater, created melodies with musical instruments in Sound Exploration, and crafted modern moʻolelo (stories) alongside the wisdom of our community’s kupuna (elders). As fall unfolds, we’re thrilled to present the one-act play, Jane and the Giant Peach, a fresh twist on the classic tale. October promises yet another thrilling collaboration with LAPA, this time on the enchanting island of Lanaʻi, where imagination and performance will come to life once again.

Kupuna "Fun with Drama" Nights
Launched in June 2023, Kupuna Drama Nights have become a beloved tradition. Partnering with the Molokaʻi Rural Health Community Association (MRHCA), up to 20 participants are welcomed each month for a lively social event, led by the director of Hōkūlani CTOM. These special evenings offer our cherished kupuna an opportunity to bond, share a light dinner, and dive into the world of drama through engaging games, readings, improvisation skits, and other creative activities.
Designed to foster life skills and meaningful interaction, this program is a powerful antidote to the effects of isolation, while celebrating and caring for our kupuna—the roots of wisdom from which our community grows. The kupuna eagerly look forward to Drama Night, and in February, they teamed up with keiki to showcase their talents in a heartwarming Comedy Variety Show for the community.
As we look to 2024, both keiki and kupuna are excited for joint projects, continuing this vibrant cross-generational mentorship that Hōkūlani CTOM proudly brings to Molokaʻi. It’s inspiring to witness the joy and connections formed as we mālama our honored elders.

Community Play Productions
2023 was a landmark year for Hōkūlani CTOM, as we made history by presenting three free community plays, with 62 talented actors gracing the stage. But 2024 has been the year for spreading our wings and embracing new adventures!
We kicked off the year with laughter through our Keiki & Kupuna Comedy Variety Show, followed by March’s electrifying Be My Own Superhero musical, showcasing 31 singers and dancers from both Molokai and Lanai. September brought the imaginative one-act play Jane and the Giant Peach to Molokai, which will soon journey to Lanai in October as part of a collaborative performing arts camp with the Lanai Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA).
As the year draws to a close, we’re preparing to usher in the holiday season with a heartwarming Community Nativity Festival, officially kicking off Molokaʻi's Christmas celebrations over Thanksgiving weekend. CTOM students will bring the sacred Christmas story to life in a stunning reenactment, Let Us Adore Him, alongside the angelic harmonies of the Hōkūlani Children's Choir of Molokaʻi. Classic Christmas carols will fill the air, with performances by talented local musicians, including the enchanting Molokaʻi Strings Program, all set against the serene beauty of a handcrafted nativity scene.

Teenage Acting Class
Teenagers thrive on projects that challenge and inspire them, providing an avenue to explore their self-identity. Twice a month, the Teen Drama Club gathers to hang out and dive into creative ventures with like-minded peers, offering a much-needed space for those who don’t fit into the island’s dominant ‘sports culture.’ Here, they can truly express themselves—whether they’re belting out songs from Broadway musicals, sketching together, or getting hands-on with behind-the-scenes production work as sound and light directors, makeup artists, advertisers, and actors.
This group has crafted a Christmas light parade float, attended thought-provoking film screenings with cultural themes, and even collaborated to create an original musical based on a fairy tale, set for production in 2025. Along the way, they’ve forged lasting memories with friends while honing their talents.
Twelve teens have participated in this unique program, designed to nurture their dreams of becoming animators, playwrights, artists, dancers, singers, and performers. Four club members have also landed internships, gaining valuable experience—and earning money—while working in environments rich with the skills and passions they aim to develop.
